How about upgrading to a cartridge type mechanical seal?

As you increase in size a cartridge seal can often make more sense than a single spring seal. 50% of seal failures are due to poor installation.  A simple mistake can cost you big bucks.  Cartridge seals eliminate installation errors because the seal faces, elastomers, gland, and sleeve are all self-contained. Attach it to the pump and remove the setting clips and you are off and running. If your replacing a single spring seal there usually is no plumbing to connect however most cartridge designs allow you to flush through the gland increasing the life span of the seal.  Initially, a cartridge seal will be more expensive due to the included gland and sleeve, but with the reduction in seal failures due to imperfect installation, and the extended life cartridge seals usually save you money in the long run.
